Ship Shorthand[edit | edit source]

  • AMC -- Armed Merchant Cruiser, a passenger liner with guns.
  • AV -- Seaplane tender. Good for scouting.
  • BB -- Battleship. No meaning to second "B."
  • BC -- Battlecruiser. Battleship-size guns, but less armor and higher speed.
  • CA -- Heavy cruiser (literally "Cruiser, Armored"). Larger guns than a CL, but not necessarily more armor!
  • CL -- Light cruiser (literally "Cruiser, Light"). Smaller, faster-firing guns than a CA. Amusingly, some CL actually have better armor than so-called "heavy" cruisers!
  • CV -- Fleet aircraft carrier. Larger and more hangar space than CVL.
  • CVL -- Light aircraft carrier. Smaller and carries fewer planes than a full-size fleet carrier.
  • DD -- Destroyer. Smallest ship class, fastest, often armed with weak guns but powerful torpedoes.
  • SS -- Submarine. Primary armament is torpedoes, may or may not have gun(s).
  • T[TYPE] -- Training Ship. Any kind of vessel with the "T" prefix is focused on gaining XP for other Belles in her fleet, especially on cruises. These are generally (Recruit somewhat excepted) not front-line, combat units. Examples found in-game so far are TBB, TCL, and TS.

Game Terms[edit | edit source]

  • Advantage -- A positive trait in Equipment which tends to have a large change on lower-impact statistics such as elevation. May have downsides or trade-offs. May be visible upon acquisition of Equipment, or uncovered during R&D. May be inserted into Blueprints (beware of the Gremlins created by doing so, however). May also exist as an empty slot on Equipment that can be filled on a Blueprint with any Advantage from other similar equipment.
  • Air Strike (Morgana) -- May occur during a Campaign. Instant loss of the Battle (not Campaign) for the player. May or may not damage Belles, but will force a retreat.
  • Backyard -- An area that primarily drops Vestures for a specific Nation's Belles.
  • Base -- An outpost in some Campaigns where a fleet of Belles may be repaired, assuming the player's HQ level is high enough to unlock the base to at least level 1. Higher Base levels mean faster repairs, but require significant Resources to upgrade.
  • Battle -- An individual fight during a Campaign. Either side may retreat, though that grants victory in the Battle to the other side.
  • Belle -- The player's fighting units. Sometimes called "shipgirls."
  • Belle of the Day/BoD/HQ Belle/Secretary -- The Belle the player sees on game start. If voiced, she will speak during Campaigns, upon completion of Research, etc. Selecting a Belle for this position may grant bonuses, such as extra relationship points earned. She can be changed at any time with no penalty.
  • Blueprint -- Item derived from breaking down Equipment. May be Researched to improve its stats, discover Advantages/Perks, and remove Gremlins. A "perfect" blueprint changes from blue to gold in the player's inventory.
  • Campaign -- A series of Battles. May be considered synonymous with Sortie. It is possible (like real life) to lose some Battles within a Campaign but ultimately win. This is the term used throughout (as opposed to Sortie).
  • Commissary -- The real-money shop in Victory Belles. Players may buy Prestige with real currency and exchange said Prestige for in-game benefits. These include Resources, Costumes, inventory slots, Belle slots, earlier unlocks of Drydock slots (which otherwise open based on HQ level), and faster Resource regeneration/Research/Production.
  • Costume -- A cosmetic item for a Belle. Does not impact battle performance.
  • Cruise -- A guaranteed-win Campaign. Belles will scavenge for Resources and Vestures, plus earn a small amount of XP. The player must have achieved a grade of "S" in an area to Cruise in it.
  • Diplomacy -- Points earned by completing Campaigns in waters controlled by a specific Nation. Most Campaigns only grant Diplomacy for one Nation, however some may grant points for multiple Nations. Used to upgrade Bases.
  • Dry Dock -- Belles are repaired in the "Repair/Refit" slots. R&D slots operate on Equipment, and Production slots produce Equipment from Blueprints. "Yellow/Orange" slots confer extra benefits.
  • Effect -- A property-changing impact stemming from an Advantage/Gremlin/Quirk (Trait) or applied Vesture. Can be searched for using the Trait By Effect form to determine which Traits carry a given Effect.
  • Equipment -- Items that can be equipped on Belles. Examples include guns, torpedoes, and aircraft. There is no "armor" equipment.
  • Fire -- Damage-over-time that can occur during battle. Is extinguished after the battle ends (unlike Flooding) and can be repaired at Bases (unlike Flooding) or in Drydock.
  • Flagship -- The Belle whose tactics are issued to the fleet. CV > BB > BC > CA > CL/CVL/AMC > DD. If multiple ships are the highest priority within a fleet (say two CA) the player may choose which one is the Flagship.
  • Flooding -- Damage that requires returning to Dry Dock (not a Base) to repair. May also be inflicted on Morganas. Reduces combat performance.
  • Gremlin -- An entirely negative trait in Equipment that can be removed with enough R&D. If active, has a value of at least one, can be in the hundreds in more difficult cases.
  • HQ/Headquarters -- The player's overall account Level (independent of Belle Levels). Determines what Campaigns the player may undertake.
  • Level -- A Belle's Level increases as she gains XP. Her hitpoints and evasion stats increase for each Level. HQ Level is separate.
  • Morgana -- The enemy faction. While they resemble Belles (women representing ships) they are evil and must be defeated.
  • Nation -- Just like real-world usage.
  • Prestige -- The special/real-money resource in Victory Belles.
  • Production -- Spend Resources to create new Equipment based on Blueprints.
  • Quirk -- A positive trait in Equipment that tends to change many values by a small amount, often including bonuses to high-impact statistics such as rate of fire. May have downsides or trade-offs. May be visible upon acquisition of Equipment, or uncovered during R&D. May be inserted into Blueprints (beware of the Gremlins created by doing so, however). May also exist as an empty slot on Equipment that can be filled on a Blueprint with any Quirk from other similar equipment.
  • Refit -- Changing a Belle's equipment. Done in Dry Dock, subject to Weight Cap limits.
  • Relationship/Rel -- The player's standing with a Belle. The higher, the better. There is no situation that will decrease this stat, however certain activities can bring more of it than others (examples include a Belle being MVP or completing her Story).
  • Repair -- Restoring a Belle's hitpoints and/or equipment, removing Flooding (only in Dry Dock).
  • Rescue [Battle/Fight] -- Recruiting a new Belle when the player has enough Vestures. The player must defeat the Morganas to recruit her. Once the Vesture cost is paid, the player has as many tries as it takes to win the Rescue with no additional costs imposed.
  • Research/R&D -- Timed activity that gradually uncovers Advantages, Gremlins, and Perks in Equipment.
  • Resource -- Expendable ingame items required to perform most tasks (like Research). Crew, Oil, Ammo, Steel, Rare Materials, Prestige, Diplomacy. Regenerate slowly over time, obtained during Campaigns, or obtained on Cruises.
  • Sortie -- May be considered synonymous with Campaign.
  • Story -- Text adventures in which the player learns more about Belles. Vestures and Relationship may be gained from this.
  • Story Battle -- The fights that take place during the Story. These are fights to the death--neither side may retreat until the battle is over.
  • Trait -- Any property of equipment. Can refer to Advantages, Gremlins, and Quirks.
  • Vesture -- Items representing a Belle. Cannot be equipped. Can be used on any Belle, but a preferred Vesture grants that Belle twice the bonus that would otherwise be conferred. Home Front Vestures are purchased with Diplomacy in the Commissary.
  • Weight Cap -- How much Equipment a Belle can carry. For example, one cannot place a battleship turret on a destroyer because of the Weight Cap. "Underweight" Belles do not gain any bonuses vs. a Belle who is at her limit.
  • XP/Experience -- Numerical points granted for winning Campaigns (largest amount), Battles (smaller amounts), and Cruises (smallest amount--usually). Increases Belle and HQ Levels.

Player Terms[edit | edit source]

  • Blap[ped] -- To dish out or receive a large amount of damage. May or may not result in sinking. From World of Warships community lingo.
  • Bonk[ed] -- A general-purpose response used on the unofficial Victory Belles Discord server.
  • Deleted -- Sunk/defeated, often in a few shots or even one volley.
  • Naked/XP Train/Corpse Dragging -- Bringing a group of Belles with no weapons (so zero Ammo cost) to gain XP during a Campaign without actually having them fight. Typically placed in another fleet than those who are actually going to fight their way through the Campaign. Used as a way to quickly level new Belles.
