When copying information directly from the game, use whatever unit is specified.  For example, if a US gun uses 6" but the Japanese equivalent uses 155mm, use 6" when talking about the US weapon and 155mm if the Japanese gun is being discussed.
If discussing historical ship displacements in trivia sections, use long tons, which is what Wikipedia itself uses for its ship entries.
