Fubuki: Difference between revisions

Fubuki was the lead ship of the ''Fubuki''-class destroyers. After the 1922 Washington Naval Treaty treated Japan as inferior to other major navies like the Royal Navy and US Navy and put more constraints on their capital ships, the IJN set out to instead work on a type of destroyer that was better than any before it. The result was the ''Fubuki''-class, a destroyer much more powerful than those from any other navy before, and even rivaled some light cruisers. The type was considered the first modern destroyer and were called ''Toku-gata Kuchikukan'' (Special Type Destroyers), had two subclasses which were the ''Ayanami'' and ''Akatsuki''-classes, and remained formidable ships as long as the end of World War II. ''Fubuki'' was the first one made and in WWII served in many theaters and battles such as in China, Southeast Asia, the Battle of Sunda Strait, Guadalcanal, and finally the Battle of Cape Esperance where she was finally sunk by American ships on October 11, 1942.
